While the most common damage done by windex is dulling the shine of the countertops it can also cause pitting. Occasional use of glass cleaner like windex is convenient. You don t need specialty cleaners for granite. But substances like cooking oils that don t evaporate can cause permanent stains if they re allowed to soak into the stone.

Some say commercial household cleaners such as windex are perfectly safe on a thoroughly sealed granite surface. I tried applying bicarbonate of soda and water paste for a short time but it made no dif. Even a completely sealed granite countertop can stain if a spill is left to sit for long enough. But repeated regular use can permanently damage your granite tops with pitting and more commonly dulling the shine of your countertops.

Windex contains ingredients that can permanently damage the granite. Generously spoon and spread that over the stain then cover the area with plastic wrap taping down its edges. Leave the homemade stain remover overnight or even for a couple of days before. You can also use a 50 50 solution of isopropyl alcohol and water.
